Hight Family of Dealerships Opens New State-Of-The-Art Hight Protection Building

September 3, 2021, SKOWHEGAN- The Hight Family of Dealerships celebrates 110 years in business by launching two new products at their brand new state of the art Hight Protection building. The Hights recently finished construction on their brand new Hight Protection building which houses the Hight Shield Products, a full line up of LINE-X bed liners, and Truck Gear accessories, and ValuGard undercoatings.

"For the last 110 years the Hights have been dedicated to providing the best possible service to our customers, the addition of our Hight Shield Product only enhances this promise. We now are able to offer our customers the highest quality products in the industry to help them protect  their investment for years to come," said Sam Hight, Dealer Principal at Hight Ford.

Thursday marked the official Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening of the Hight Protection Building, with around 100 guests attending. "I am so glad to see the Hight Family continue to contribute to the growth of Skowhegan and out surrounding communities. They have played a part inn our area's success for generations and this new facility demonstrates that commitment," said Senator Brad Farrin who attended the event.

"We're thrilled that the Hight Family has chosen Skowhegan for another business venture," said Kristina Cannon, Main Street Skowhegan's Executive Director. "Skowhegan's history is deeply rooted in local entrepreneurship and innovation, and the Hights have been leaders in local business for 110 years. Hight Protection Center is another example of their ingenuity and commitment to this community. Congratulations to the Hight family for launching what we know will be another successful business in Skowhegan."

Sam Hight spoke of his family's 110 history in the automotive industry, dating back to the days of his Great-Grandfather Walter Hight selling Model T's out of his livery stable. Kirby Hight, Walter's son, the second generation to run the Hight family business, was also honored at the ceremony. Hight unveiled a plaque on the side of the building, which he dedicated to his grandfather. The Hights recently also revealed a beer collaboration with Bigelow Brewing where they named Bigelow's newest beer, Tin Can Sailor, for Kirby as well.

"102 years of life well lived," Hight spoke of his grandfather. "He asked all of the Hights to build a building for our antique cars. Well, this is what your get instead! I think he would greatly appreciate the building and the sentiment, both because he didn't have to pay for it and the potential return on a service garage of this type would be much greater than a car museum."

"We are incredibly grateful for the local contractors that helped us to get our bolding up and running without hesitation, we are lucky to have a great group of local contractors and businesses," said Hight. The Hights used local contractors to build the building including Ware Butler, McKenny & Sons Building, Short Circuit Electric, Provencal Plumbing, Bob's Cash Fuel, and Fitzgerald Concrete. With such difficult times with building supply shortages the team was able to get the building put and running ahead of schedule, and allowed the Hights to get up and running a month ahead of schedule.

The Hight Protection Center has been spraying LINE-X bed liners and ValuGard undercoatings for a month now, and Hight comments that LINE-X and ValuGard come with an industry exclusive limited lifetime warranty. "You can protect your vehicle, boat, camper, trailer, UTV- anything made of metal that you want to protect from Maine's elements," Hight said.

Hight Family of Dealerships and Bigelow Brewing Release a One Of A Kind Beer

August 13, 2021, SKOWHEGAN- The Hight Family of Dealerships celebrates 110 years in business by announcing a beer collaboration with Bigelow Brewing- Hight's Tin Can Sailor-the first known brewery and auto dealership collaboration in the country. Together the two Skowhegan businesses have launched "Hight's Tin Can Sailor" a Scotch Ale honoring the late  Lt. S. Kirby Hight's legacy as a war hero and business icon. Tin Can Sailor-a term use to describe Navy Sailors on Destroyers-plays homage to Kirby's service to his country, and highlights his affectation for scotch, cigars, and most importantly his dedication to the community.

Kirby followed in his father's footsteps entering the car business upon graduating from Bowdoin College. In 1941, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Kirb answered his country's calling and joined the U.S. Navy. From 1942 to 1945 Kirb moved up the ranks as  an ensign, midshipman, Lieutenant, and eventually the Captain of the USS Babbitt a DD-152 naval destroyer used during convoy missions in the North Atlantic.

As the Hights celebrate their 110th year in business they honor Walter and Kirby Hight's legacies of building a business that has lasted through two World Wars, two Pandemics, and The Great Depression. "None of it would be possible without the confidence and loyalty of our customers and this community," said Hight. Jeff Powers, of Bigelow Brewing "Community is the cornerstone of Bigelow Brewing, just as it has been for the Hight family for the past 110 years."

The Hights have announced that they will be donating $1 for each can of Tin Can Sailor sold to the the Skowhegan Free Public Library. "The Skowhegan Free Public Library was an organization that my grandparents Kirby and Grace were passionate about, it seemed appropriate to choose this organization as the first  beneficiary of Tin Can Sailor," said Sam Hight, Dealer Principal at Hight Ford.

You can currently get your four pack of Tin Can Sailor at Damon's Beverage Mart in Skowhegan, the Skowhegan State Fair, and select restaurants. It won't last long!

SKOWHEGAN, ME - NOVEMBER 20, 2020 - The holiday season is here and with it comes excitement for the first snowfall, time with family, giving and receiving gifts, and delicious food. However, it's also a wonderful time of year to show your appreciation by giving back to your local community. With this sentiment in mind, Gifford's Ice Cream has teamed up with Hight Dealerships and Animal Medical Clinic to benefit a local charity called the Sweet Dreams Project. For the fifth year in a row, this charitable giving campaign will focus on providing children in-need with a new book, PJs, and toy to open during the holidays. Gifford's, Hight, and Animal Medical Clinic are working together to spread the word about Sweet Dreams and helping to collect donations through December 6, 2020. Donations can be dropped off at:

The goal? Bring warmth to the community and give kids a holiday memory they'll look back on fondly.

"As we head into the holiday season, Gifford's is thrilled to partner with local family-owned and operated businesses to give back to the community we were born and bred in," said Lindsay Gifford-Skilling, CEO of Gifford's Ice Cream. "This is our home and being part of this project means a lot to us. We hope that other community organizations and Skowhegan residents will help us in giving back to Sweet Dreams to make the holidays extra special for kids in our town as we continue to navigate pandemic challenges."

Sweet Dreams Hits Half a Decade Milestone for Giving Back to Skowhegan Kids

Since 2016, the Sweet Dreams Project has given gifts to children in Skowhegan during the holiday season with the hopes of lifting their spirits and bringing families together. In its first year, the project donated 114 sets of PJs and books to local community members. In 2019, the program donated over 400 gift sets. This year, they're doing all they can to make an even larger donation.

Deb Tanner, Skowhegan Area Middle School Teacher and founder of the Sweet Dreams Project, is a dedicated public servant who was named Somerset County Teacher of the Year in 2015. Since then, Tanner has dedicated thousands of hours to do more and give more to the kids she teaches. Partnering with local businesses makes Tanner's vision for the program even more possible

"I'm so thrilled to have Gifford's, Hight's, and Animal Medical Center on board this year," said Tanner. "Having the support of local organizations means a lot to me and other Sweet Dreams organizers. Thanks for helping make what can be a tough season, a little brighter for Skowhegan residents."

"If there is a silver lining to the COVID epidemic, it is how our community has come together to help our fellow neighbors," said Sam Hight. "We (the Hights are always honored to help these wonderful, local programs."

Donations for Sweet Dreams Project will be accepted through December 6, 2020 at the aforementioned locations. Those interested in giving to the cause can provide PJs and an age-appropriate book and toy in their donation package. If you plan to wrap your gift, please note the gender and size for the PJs, as well as the intended age of the book and toy. Distribution of toys will be conducted on December 14, 2020.
